Surrey County Council are proposing to sell Weybridge Register Office and re-develop the land for luxury flats.
Known as Rylston, it was built as a private house in 1911 in the Arts and Crafts style and is one of the only buildings of its type left in the area. Retaining many of its original architectural features it would be an absolute disgrace if it were to be sold and demolished.
It became a Register Office in 1993 providing an invaluable service to the local and surrounding community. Not only the provision of a stunning and affordable venue in which to have a marriage, civil partnership or citizenship ceremony, but for the other people who visit at some of the best and some of the worse times of life - the Registrations of births and deaths.
It’s current location on Oatlands Drive makes it easy to find and easy to park. Therefore has very little impact on the infrastructure of Weybridge / Walton. The proposal is to move it to above Weybridge Library - a 1960's building in need of refurbishment with a history of anti-social behaviour around it. Weybridge town centre is already heavily congested, the parking facilities are not adequate as it stands - let alone with the addition of a very busy Register Office.
Please help us to keep this historic building for the community.
