Holmesdale Residents started this petition to Surrey County Council

Hundreds of children walk along Holmesdale Road in Reigate on their way to and from school and nursery - including to Bright Horizons and Cavendish nurseries, and Holmesdale and Micklefield schools. Lots of children live on the street and walk along it to go on other journeys too.

The road has a 30mph speed limit, very bad visibility, and is narrow, so vehicles often mount the pavement to pass one another. Some larger cars do this without their driver even seeing that a small child is on the pavement and there has been a lot of near-misses involving very young children in particular. There has now also been a collision on the road involving a child.

We are asking Surrey Council to put traffic calming measures in place on Holmesdale Road that protect children and prevent further accidents occurring in the future. We would like to meet representatives from Surrey Council so that we can explain the issues in more detail so that routes to these schools can be made safer.

We spoke to Councillor Whinney (independent member on Reigate and Banstead Council) last week and hope to speak to Councillor Lewanski (member for Reigate on Surrey Council) soon. We need people to sign our petition so that we can show the Council during these conversations that there is support to make the street safer. There is no need to contribute funds to the petition but we would be grateful for your signature - and also any comments you make about your experience as a resident or parent, even if just to say that you use the road as a route to school, or walk along it with children.

Thank you!
