58 YRS ON, ETAH STATION STUCK IN SLOW COACH TO NOWHERE

Etah railway station is caught in a time warp and symbolises the district’s unkept tryst with development.
If it were not for the railway track, it would be difficult to believe that one is at a train station. Clearly, this is land of bypassed opportunities.
Inaugurated by India’s first President Dr Rajendra Prasad on January 18, 1959, the station has only one train – linking Etah with Tundla –operated from here.

Instead of twice, the passenger train runs only once a day these days. Locals give credit to the then MP from Etah, late Rohan Lal Chaturvedi for taking the initiative and putting Etah district on the rail map of India. In the 58 years since then, the Etah railway station has remained stuck in a slow coach.

The station remains deserted for most part of the day. It is only the track that makes the place look like a railway station.
Though there is an office of station superintendent and station master but they, having very little to do, visit the office occasionally.

“There was an Etah-Agra train, which began last year but has been stopped because of fog,” .

I request the authorities to re start this train as this can give a reliable connectivity to the commuters towards Delhi, kolkata and rest of India. It will benefit the students also.

It will also benefit the local small business personnel.

Again I request the authorities to look forward to start the train on permanent basis.
