Saud Siddiqui started this petition to Press Council of India (President) and

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee famously said,

"Sarkarein to aati jaati rahengi, ye desh rehna chahiye, is desh ka loktantra rehna chahiye!"

For far too long, we the citizens of India have been robbed of one thing by our lawmakers, accountability. Although integral to a democratic country, accountability of politicians has been cheapening day by day.

By the establishment of National Press Accountability Bureau, I propose that the Prime Minister of India, having the collective responsibility of the entire Government, be present in a press briefing room, once a month compulsorily and answer each and every question from each and everyone present in the hall. The bureau will comprise of one member from every major media house, both print and television, and each and every member too will be required to ask at least 3 questions from the Prime Minister.

Although the technicalities of the matter can be dealed with later, the lack of a forum for proper questioning and dissent cannot. I humbly request, as a young citizen of this great nation, every concerned citizen to support this initiative, and I also implore the Press Council of India and the Editors Guild of India to consider this petition.

Thank you.
