Celebrate lifting of the firecracker ban on 2nd Nov 2017

Dear Dilliwallahs (and all others who live in the NCR),

The Supreme Court of India has taken due notice of the terrible air quality that mars our otherwise pristine capital region. It has banned the sale and use of all fireworks until 1st November 2017 in the NCR. This is presumably because fireworks are the sole cause of pollution and air quality only matters until 1st November.

As a sign of deep respect for our August judiciary, I urge you to desist from buying/ lighting fireworks until such a time as the ban is in force. However, in view of how myopic the ban is, I also urge you to participate in the peaceful and orderly lighting of fireworks on 2nd November 2017, preferably as close to the Supreme Court as legally permitted.

Please beware that this is a peaceful protest. This is not a call to indulge in any violent activity during the 2nd November celebratory protest or to subvert the law in any manner or hurt the sentiments of any community.

Please sign this petition as a notice to the Most August Supreme Court of India.
