Supporting Youth Theater Camp in Palatine

This petition had 49 supporters

Caught in the Act Youth Theater has been part of the Palatine Park District for 35 years, but this year the Park District has chosen to exclude this camp from the 2017 Summer Camp line-up. I would like to show the park district just how important this camp is to our kids (and their families).

PPD sent out an email stating they want to take a year to evaluate the program and investigate ways to boost enrollment. I am asking for your help to sign a petition to ask the Palatine Park District keep this program going during this evaluation. I would like them to involve interested families of previous participants in discussing ways to boost enrollment or fundraising opportunities to help make this a camp that works for both the PPD and our kids.

CITA has offered a unique camp option for the kids who do not want to spend the summers in sports camps and day camps. It is the only full day camp in Palatine that offers  students an intense program in the arts. We allow so many opportunities for sports enthusiasts, but no full day options for those interested in the arts. This camp targets ages 10-15, which gives kids typically aging out of day camps an enrichment opportunity for 4 weeks of their summer.

My son has been part of CITA for 3 years, it is THE camp he looks forward to every year and his sister has been counting down the years until she is old enough to join. This has been such an amazing experience for him and for us to watch how much he's grown in just 3 years. This is not just community theater, it is four weeks of working with an amazing director, voice coach, choreographer, set and costume designers, not to mention some of the nicest, encouraging and most talented kids in the area.  It is the only camp he wants to attend.

It reaches beyond the boarders of Palatine, the quality of this program attracts talent from the surrounding community.

Why should we promote the arts for our kids? Kids in the arts:

  • Are more comfortable in public speaking
  • Understand the importance of rehearsing and preparing
  • Learn empathy and compassion
  • They are more likely to win academic awards, and winning science fairs.*
  • They generally score 39 points higher on the math portion of the SATs and a 56 points higher on the verbal portion*

Please sign this petition to show PPD how much this camp means to your actress/actor!

Thank you!
