Support the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act’

The U.S. Congress is working to enact consumer-friendly tax policies that will impact hundreds of millions of wireless consumers like you by putting the brakes on excessive taxes and fees.

Cellphone service was once considered a luxury, but now having a cellphone is a daily necessity for most consumers. It has become an all too important resource for working class Americans who feel the pinch of regressive wireless taxes and fees each month. The average American pays more than 17% in monthly federal, state and wireless taxes and fees.

Thankfully, a piece of common-sense, bipartisan legislation has been proposed by Congress – the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act’ – which would place a five-year freeze on any new, discriminatory state and local wireless tax and/or fees. This legislation would protect consumers from additional taxes while also allowing states to undertake meaningful tax reform.

The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed this bipartisan bill in the 112th Congress, but the Senate failed to act on a similar version. Since then, the average wireless tax rate has increased by almost one percent from 16.3% to 17.2%. Moreover, the majority (84%) of consumers we surveyed in our Annual Consumer Survey support a five-year freeze on all new wireless taxes and fees.

You can help! Please urge your elected officials to pass the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act' today. Let’s keep wireless affordable and accessible for ALL Americans.

I just signed the following important petition addressed to: The U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

Support the 'Wireless Tax Fairness Act'

Congress is working to forge consumer-friendly tax policies that will impact hundreds of millions of wireless consumers just like me. Cellphone service was once considered a luxury, but having a cellphone is now a daily lifeline for most consumers. It's become an all too important resource for working class Americans who feel the pinch of regressive wireless taxes and fees each month.

A piece of common-sense, bipartisan legislation proposed in Congress, called the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act,’ (H.R. 2309 in the U.S. House of Representatives and S. 1235 in the U.S. Senate) would put a five-year freeze on any new, discriminatory state and local wireless taxes and fees. This would protect consumers from more taxes piling onto their bills and also allow states to look at meaningful tax reform.

This bipartisan bill unanimously passed in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 112th Congress, but the Senate failed to act on a similar version. Since then the average wireless tax rate has increased by almost one percent from 16.3% to 17.2%.

Enough is enough.

Let’s keep wireless affordable and accessible for ALL Americans. Say NO to all new, discriminatory state and local wireless taxes & fees – for five years!

Please pass the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act’ in this Congress.
