This petition serves to acknowledge support for Glendon Oakley's actions during the El Paso Walmart Active Shooter Emergency in which he selflessly served as an armed guard for defenseless children fleeing an ongoing shooting tragedy.

Glendon Oakley ensured parents wouldn't have unexplainable pain from losing their child. He saved families from the grief that would've shaken them for a lifetime, and instead, will likely carry the weight of his actions for the rest of his life.

In a nation where 22 veteran suicides occur a day, we must understand and recognize the real sacrifices Americans make for the greater good of the free world.

We must not forget the heroism & sensibility of Glendon Oakley in the face of evil on that tragic day.

Please help award Glendon's actions with the Soldier Medal as a way to acknowledge his actions as an American Hero. This medal is not just for him, but for all of the brave people who acted that day to save others without regard to their own lives.

U.S. Army Spc. Glendon Oakley should be given the Soldier's Medal which is awarded to any person of the Armed Forces not serving in a duty status at the time of the heroic act, distinguished himself or herself by heroism not involving conflict with an enemy.
