To the Montgomery County Planning Board, the Montgomery County Council and Community Members,

We, the undersigned, affirm the widely recognized need for more active recreation parks in the greater Olney area.

Montgomery County’s Board of Education’s decision to modernize Farquhar Middle School via a land swap with the adjacent parcel to the north is one way to accelerate park creation. This land swap would provide the following benefits to the Olney, Sandy Spring, Brookeville, Ashton and Silver Spring communities:

•  Expedites park development so that ball fields and other active recreation are available to our community sooner

• Athletic fields currently in use, will remain in use while Farquhar Middle School is modernized from June 2013 to August 2015

• Ensures that the ~37 acre combined area for Farquhar Middle School and the adjacent active recreation parkland are developed as intended for a school and a park

• Keeps Farquhar student body and families actively in the community during 2 year modernization process.

The Farquhar Middle School land swap is a “win- win” for our community, and we support it. We ask that the Montgomery County Planning Board and the County Council support it as well and do everything in their collective power to achieve this beneficial development in our community.

If you are a resident of Montgomery County, Maryland and are over 18, we ask that you sign this petition to support our cause.
