Support the Kiawah River Amendment to Allow Short Term Rentals

Support the Kiawah River Amendment to Allow Short Term Rentals
Why this petition matters
This is in support of the proposed amendment to Charleston City Council to add Short Term Rental Properties (STRPs) as a permitted use within the Kiawah River PDD. When the Kiawah River development agreement was negotiated back in December 2009, Charleston County did not regulate STRPs. Since then, the County’s Zoning and Land Development Regulations have been amended to address and to regulate STRPs. The proposed amendment for Kiawah River matches the current provisions and is not requesting any revisions.
The proposed amendment will allow Limited Home Short Term Rentals on all properties (limited to 72 rental days per calendar year; do not need to be owner occupied) and allow Extended Home Short-Term Rentals by right (limited to 144 rental days per calendar year; do not need to be owner occupied) only in restricted areas.
Signing this petition expresses support that the amendment be passed by Charleston City Council to allow property owners the right to choose if they want to utilize their property as a STRP within the Kiawah River Community.
