We must make a greater good to our education within our school district in all aspects. We cannot afford to do nothing any longer. Juniata County is a great community and we deserve to have a good educational system. We can keep the nice rural community living while progressing forward in our educational endeavors. The two are not exclusive from each other! If we all work together, we can accomplish something great that is going to benefit and give back overall. The public wants to be in the “know”. They want to be included, they want honest upfront answers. Possibly, the lack of support lies from the taxpayers not knowing exact figures. Show the people an exact figure of how much the taxes will be with each scenario. They will support you if you can work with them and work with those that truly do care.
If consolidating to one building at each end is the best step forward, then make that step! And then, moving forward with the new consolidated buildings we urge you to make the most of that building. You will need to ensure that the building houses all of the needs to support the students and staff. I urge you to include your staff and teachers to ensure that all needs are met and you hear the thoughts that truly have an impact on our students.
Furthermore, we do not want to see cuts within our district from our education or extra curricular activities. In fact, we would like to have more opportunities for our youth within our district whether those benefits are with more educational classes or additional extra curricular opportunities.
If you chose to keep all structurally sound buildings open and fully renovate, there are so many renovations needed to keep them open but also upgrades to enhance the schools. I know that it’s more than just updating doors, windows and heating. I also know that there are greater needs than the public sees or understands. In the renovations, for example, I would want to see each school have a new Gym/Multipurpose room in addition to the cafeteria that would benefit not only the students but the community as well. I would want to see security updates and modular buildings gone. Updating all of this at each school is a lot of money and another band aide. Ultimately, I think keeping each school open is more costly and again a temporary fix that generations to come will have to face these decisions again as we are now.
In the beginning, there were some that thought “NO, I want our small schools to remain open”. And, as they do wish that still could be the case, we have to look at the bigger picture and we feel renovations are just not logical anymore on many levels.
If consolidating is the best option, then we support it. WE SUPPORT YOU! It is time to move forward! We urge you to call a re-vote and vote YES!
