Support the Greenfield Community Garden: Help Us Transform Derelict Land

The Issue

We, the undersigned, call on Flintshire County Council to support the development of a community garden on the derelict land on School Lane in Greenfield. This space is currently designated as Green Space in the Local Development Plan, and we believe it should remain a resource for the entire community, providing environmental, educational, and social benefits for all.

Imagine a place in Greenfield where everyone can gather, learn, relax, and connect with nature—a vibrant community garden open to all ages and abilities. Our proposal for the Greenfield Community Garden aims to transform derelict land into a thriving, accessible green space that would support our community's social, environmental, and wellbeing needs.

However, despite community support, Flintshire County Council is currently considering the site for housing development. This decision risks losing a valuable green space and ignores the potential benefits this garden could bring to Greenfield.

Why We Need Your Help:
Our proposal aligns directly with the goals in Flintshire County Council’s own Green Space Strategy, which recognises the importance of green spaces for social connection, environmental sustainability, and community health. We believe a community garden would help fulfil this vision by:

Providing a Green Space for All Ages: A safe and welcoming space for everyone to relax, meet, and enjoy nature.

Supporting Education and Wellbeing: Hosting workshops on gardening, sustainability, and wellness, open to local schools, charities, and residents of all abilities.

Creating Jobs and Volunteer Opportunities: Providing employment in horticulture and kiosk roles, along with volunteer opportunities for community members to help maintain the garden.

Protecting Wildlife and Biodiversity: Enhancing the area with native plants and habitats for local wildlife.

Why This Matters:
Greenfield is a community in need of more accessible green spaces, with limited recreational areas and high unemployment. We deserve a place where we can grow, learn, and thrive together—a place that aligns with the council’s stated goals of enhancing quality of life and providing safe, accessible green spaces for everyone.

What We’re Asking For:
We urge Flintshire County Council to honour its Green Space Strategy and approve the community garden proposal for the derelict land in Greenfield. By preserving this space as a garden, we can create a sustainable, community-driven project that supports social, educational, and environmental goals for years to come.

Please sign this petition to show your support for the Greenfield Community Garden. Together, we can make a difference for Greenfield and ensure this valuable land remains a community asset for all.

Thank you for standing with us to bring this vision to life!
