Problem
Greek is the number one language spoken after Spanish in the Astoria neighborhood, yet there is no dual language program to represent this linguistic group in New York City's public schools. Many other dual language programs have been established all over the city. It's about time that Greek speakers were also represented in district 30 schools through the establishment of the first Greek-English dual language program in the heart of Astoria starting in the 2019-2020 school year.

Solution
We would like to start the Greek-English dual language program with an incoming kindergarten class in the 2019-2020 school year and add a new kindergarten class each year until the program is fully phased in. Down the line we even hope to add a Greek-English dual language pre-K class so that there are Greek-English dual language options from Pre-K through 5th grade within district 30, Queens.
