Support Syrian Children’s Right to Education
Why this is important? A message from Muzoon, a Syrian refugee, education advocate and Malala Fund ambassador.
I am Muzoon. When Malala came to visit the Syrian refugee camp in Jordan where my family was relocated after fleeing the war, she encouraged me to continue raising my voice on behalf of Syrian children like me who are trying to get an education despite the conflict that has forced us to leave our homes or shut our schools.
On February 4th, leaders from some of the most powerful countries in the world will meet at a conference in the UK to make commitments to do more to help the millions of Syrians who have been affected by the conflict, including the 3.5 million children whose education has been interrupted or is yet to start. Malala and I will be there to demand that leaders give each of these children the chance to learn, but we need your support.
Join us to demand the Syrian Conference finds the $1.4 billion a year needed to make sure all Syrian children affected by the conflict get an education, starting in 2016.
If this commitment is not made and more money provided this year, we will only be able to educate one in five Syrian children whose education has been affected by the conflict. This is not good enough. Every child has a right to education, in war and in peace.
People fear that we will become a “lost generation” but today we are #notlost. We are the greatest hope for Syria's future and we must make sure the world invests in that hope through education.
Please stand with Malala and I and challenge the world’s leaders to commit at least $1.4 billion to education on February 4th. We are #notlost. We are here and we are ready to build our futures and that of Syria. We need the world’s leaders to give us the opportunity to do so.
I call for governments and other donors to provide at least $1.4 billion a year for the next 3 years to make sure all Syrian children get a chance at education, starting this school year.
With your support, and #withMalala and Muzoon, we will help ensure that this generation of Syria’s youth are #notlost.
