Support Proposal for Menstrual Hygiene Products on FAMU Campus
By signing this petition, we are supporting the statement, "All students deserve reliable access to menstrual hygiene products on campus to improve physical and mental wellbeing."
It is not uncommon for students to find themselves in need of menstrual hygiene products while studying, and in order to support productive studying, it is helpful to have menstrual hygiene products available. Therefore, we believe menstrual hygiene products should be available in the campus restrooms for all menstruating students because menstruation is a natural bodily process affecting over half of the population. Menstrual hygiene products should be regarded as fundamental necessities such as toilet paper and hand soap. Numerous colleges and universities across the nation, including Brown University, Cornell University, Grinnell College, University of Minnesota, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, North Eastern University, Harvard, Yale, Columbia University, Boston University, University of Washington, University of Iowa, and UCLA have implemented programs to provide menstrual products for students.
During the spring 2022 semester, #FreethePeriod., piloted a program using donations to provide menstrual hygiene products in Coleman Library and Tucker Hall. This program was successful with supplies being used up by students within 6 weeks and the pilot program received positive feedback from students. We herein sign this statement to support a permanent program.
