President Obama has thrown down the gauntlet and demanded Congress examine our tax code to ensure everyone is paying their fair share.
In a Rose Garden speech, the President said:
“It is wrong that in the United States of America a teacher or a nurse or a construction worker who earns $50,000 should pay higher tax rates than somebody pulling in $50 million.
Anybody who says we can't change the tax code to correct that, anyone who has signed some pledge to protect every single tax loophole so long as they live, they should be called out.”
And he's right. It's time to call out Republicans who are putting millionaire tax breaks before middle class jobs.
One of President Obama's key proposals is the "Warren Buffett Rule," which is quite simple: people making more than $1 million a year should pay at least the same percentage of their income in taxes as middle-class taxpayers.
It's just common sense that the only way out of our economic difficulties is everyone contributing their fair share, and implementing the "Warren Buffett Rule" is an important first step.
Take action today and tell Speaker Boehner and House Republicans that it's time everyone contributes what's fair. Enough with the Tea Party games. If they want to stick to their “my way or the highway” strategy, it’s up to us to show them the off-ramp.
- House Republicans
I urge you to support President Obama's "Warren Buffett Rule" which would mean millionaires pay at least the same percentage of their income in taxes as middle-class taxpayers.
It's just common sense that the only way out of our economic difficulties is everyone contributing their fair share.
