Why this petition matters

Congressman Matt Gaetz represents Florida’s first district in Congress (FL1). He has made a series of degrading, demeaning, and demoralizing statements regarding the appearance of women and their sexuality. These women are directly being attacked by Matt Gaetz for their actions standing up for their rights as American citizens. Congressman Gaetz has no right to degrade and berate women based on his opinion of their appearance. When given a chance to clarify the initial statements, he doubled down and expressed hopes that women would be disgusted and offended by his statements. For this reason we are asking Congress to intervene and censure Matt Gaetz for his disgusting behavior not becoming of a U.S. Congressman.

We are asking The U.S. House to act under its powers with its members to hold Congressman Gaetz accountable. Those signing in support are Citizens that believe Congressman Matt Gaetz must be held accountable for his shameful and demeaning statements toward American women. Women deserve equal protection under the law, the freedom to protest their rights that are under attack, and a congressperson who has decency and integrity for all constituents.

Publicly recorded statements we want to see censured by Matt Gaetz:

“The people are just disgusting. But why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions? Nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb.”

“They’re, like, 5’2,” 350 pounds, and they’re like, ‘Give me my abortion or I’ll get up and march and protest,’I’m thinking, march? You look like you got ankles weaker than the legal reasoning behind Roe v. Wade. A few of ’em need to get up and march. They need to get up and march for, like, an hour a day, swing those arms, get the blood pumping, maybe mix in a salad.”

When questioned days after the above statement he double down and said:

He was asked by a reporter from WEAR-TV, if he believed that women who attended pro-abortion rallies were “ugly and overweight”, to which he replied “yes”.
.
“I find these people who go out on these pro-abortion and pro-murder rallies odious and just ugly on the inside and out and I make no apology for it,” he told the station.

Thank you for supporting accountability in the U.S. Congress

Sincerely Women of Florida’s first District and all of our supporters signing this petition
