Local business in the Philippines can be defined by the size of the properties, the size of the capital stock, and the number of employees. The importance of local business to local markets is rooted socially in buying and selling with friends and neighbors. The economic advantages of local retail can also be seen by the value of small retailers in rural areas and major cities. In certain towns and villages, small enterprises are the only sort that can survive when servicing a diminished population. In major cities, local companies also sell a more varied inventory or specialize in delivering exclusive or customized consumer services. Small companies also deliver new job opportunities and act as the building blocks for the biggest businesses in the Philippines.

Buying local products also means your support. When you buy Philippine-made goods, money remains in the economy when you purchase from locally run small and medium-sized companies, since they often purchase from other local businesses, such as banks, utility providers, and plantations. This in turn enhances the economic foundation of the Philippines, encouraging patronage and success for other local industries as well.
