Physician-Assisted suicide, aid in dying, or death with dignity as many like to call it, is when a physician facilitates a terminally ill patient’s death by providing the necessary means and/or information to enable the patient to perform the life-ending act. The physician provides medication and information about the lethal dose, while aware that the patient may use it to commit suicide. It helps the patients and loved ones to end their suffering and longevity of their terminal illness that may last longer than desired. It is something that is tough to talk about because death is always seen as negative. Death is not the worst thing that can happen to a person, and these patients can well enough testify to that. Many tests go into determining whether the patient is capable of making the decision and two physicians must be in accordance in order to facilitate the medication and information to the patient. Vote yes when on the ballot, and post on social media about the importance of validating and honoring the wishes of our loved ones. I personally saw my loved one go through months of suffering due to many illnesses, unable to breathe, speak, eat, or even open her eyes. Months of torture and asking everyone to help her end it. My family disregarded her wishes because of the selfish fact that we don’t like to see our loved ones die. She endured lots of pain and suffering until she herself found a way to end her suffering. The ones who were supposed to support her in her time of need, didn’t. This is a request for support in legalizing PAS in the remaining 40 states of the U.S, is for everyone. We don’t know when we ourselves or one of our loved ones may have to go through this.
