Support Immigrants
I chose the topic of migration because I come from a family that has migrated from another country to the US. My parents have shared their experiences along the way of their journey to the US and how they built themselves a future along with the struggles it.
My father migrated from Jamacia to Toronto Canada with his family where he moved to the US to get his education. My mother migrated from West Africa after her father passed away in a coup to seek a better lifestyle in the US. My parents explained to me that there were a lot of people that doubted them and made them feel lesser, because of the thick accent they had from their previous countries. My parents explain that they were also taken advantage of In many situations because it was clear to others that they weren't from here.
My parents have successfully completed their professions after all those years of being treated differently.
My dad studied at the University of Maryland and received his Ph.D. In radiology, he studied medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, and also did his residency at Drexel University where he later met my mom at an on-campus event around 1996. My mother was studying real estate at the time she met my father. They both saw each other out for the experiences they've had In America and that is what helped build their relationship.
I believe that migrants and immigrants need that extra boost of reassurance to help to build their careers and have a positive impact on the US.
I believe if by signing this petition it will help out other immigrants to feel more welcome and respected by spreading awareness of the struggles they face every day.
