Dear Mr. President,

The killing of Mahsa Amini at the hands of the Islamic regime’s “morality police” in Tehran and the violent crackdown of the peaceful protests that followed, is only the latest manifestation of the regime’s complete and utter disregard for universal human rights. Mahsa Amini’s name has become the codeword for resistance against the regime’s 44 years of iron fist rule riddled with systemic corruption, persecution and violation of basic human rights. The nation’s outrage rightfully culminated and peaceful protest swept across the country in a historic display of courage and determination. People are calling for an end to this murderous, undemocratic regime, despite the ongoing killings, unlawful mass arrests, and torture in an aim to forcefully slow down the revolution. Bereft of freedom of the media, the regime has once again shut down the internet to disrupt free flow of information among citizens and the international community.
At this juncture, we, the Iranian-American community, urge your office to take swift and impactful action in support of the people of Iran. Our proposed measures are as follows:

 ◦ Condemn in the strongest possible terms the regime’s egregious display of violence and hatred against the people of Iran.

 ◦ Exit all talks with the regime. Isolate the regime on the international stage via diplomacy. Urge our allies to cut diplomatic ties with the regime. Visa ban for the regime’s officials, and lobbyists helps restrain its propaganda machine. 

 ◦ Identify and sanction key regime figures behind the brutal crackdowns that continue to take lives of ordinary Iranian citizens.

 ◦ Counter censorship by engaging and encouraging social media and tech companies to grow their support for free access to the internet in Iran.

The courageous and defiant Iranian protesters chanting “Women, Life, Freedom” have shown their unyielding resolve for change towards a lasting democracy. This is our chance to stand with them on the right side of history.
