Maastricht’s affordable culture is under threat. Social and cultural collectives struggle to find and maintain affordable spaces. Meanwhile, the cultural freezones Landbouwbelang and The B face eviction. The Gemeente called the exterminators on what they think is a cultural infestation, but Maastricht has always been crawling with creativity and community in every corner. Let’s make sure it stays that way.
Some collectives face eviction, others can’t find a place to grow — but together, we’ll swarm the streets to protect our ecosystem. We request affordable spaces to carry on with promoting a accessible and inclusive alternative culture. Join us on May 31st for a protest parade that’s also a celebration of resistance, community, and creativity. Subculture is our ecosystem, and we won’t let it die. 

We need affordable subculture spaces in Maastricht, for collectives by collectives !!!

1.    Halt the evictions of LBB, the B, and the Foodbank until community-led alternatives are offered.
2.    Recognize and Support Maastricht's Subculture. This city is more than just ‘sjiek and sjoen’. It is built on cultural/social collectives and solidarity.
3.    Make vacant spaces accessible for cultural and social initiatives. Over 2900 buildings stand empty while communities are neglected.
4.    Involve local communities and cultural collectives in urban planning, not just investors and developers.
5.    Restore and expand cultural funding. Support grassroots projects, not just elite institutions.
