Support for our St. Croix Prep Academy School Faculty

Support for our St. Croix Prep Academy School Faculty
Why this petition matters
Every school can weather changes from year to year, but at SCPA, families are made to believe that our staff is supported in a way that will only positively impact our children. "We operate under the credo of establishing community, working hard, making good decisions, exhibiting character/leadership, and doing what is best for kids" - Jon Gutierrez, Executive Director.
The high turnover rate of staff at the lower, middle, and upper school levels will or has impacted our children's education in one way or another. We are asking the board to follow through with an independent investigation into the current culture and climate of the school with anonymous feedback from current and former families and employees. This petition will be presented to the School Board on August 16, 2022.
- Since 2015- 2016, school year attrition rates at the Lower School level have continued to be higher in comparison to the Middle School and High School. 4 more Lower School teachers resigned at the end of the 2021- 2022 school year. Retention data at all school levels has been requested and denied by the Executive Director of SCPA.
- A historical pattern of resignations by staff due to a toxic work environment set forth by leadership (bullying by the administration has been cited). Teachers and parents are expressing concerns regarding the loss of teachers and lack of consistency with the values presented by the mission and vision of St. Croix Prep Academy (SCPA Voices).
- A petition similar to this was presented to the SCPA School Board in December of 2016 and nothing was done to address the concerns (SCPA Petition).
- A pattern has continued and negative behavior impacting the quality of education of our students has continued.
- The Lower School administrator has a history proven through former employment evaluations (made public when they sued their previous district) including concerns in the areas of human resources and professional-and-ethical leadership. (Joann Karetov vs ISD 283)
If not addressed the reputation and quality of the staff and education model of St. Croix Prep is at risk. The school's inability to retain a strong teaching faculty is a large concern and will continue to impact our kids.
