Support Choice in Asheville Youth Soccer

Twenty years ago, in 1997, Buncombe County was home to roughly 27,000 kids between the ages of 5 and 18. Today, there are roughly 36,400 kids in the same age group, an increase of 9,600 kids. The Asheville area has grown enough to support more options in youth soccer.
Years of research have shown that different children learn in different ways. In the classroom, some kids are hands on learners, some are conceptual learners. Good schools offer both styles of teaching to best serve the student population. In sports, some kids learn best in a team centered setting and some learn best in a more player focused setting. Smart communities have both. Up until recently, Asheville has only had one option in youth soccer training. For this reason and others, a group of Asheville soccer parents came together with the vision to form a new club, and the Asheville Shield Football Club (ASFC) was born. ASFC is a vital addition to the community, offerong a viable alternative in recreational and club level soccer training.
ASFC's Classic teams have competed in NCYSA league play under the auspices of Carolina Mountain Soccer Club for 3 years running. This Spring, ASFC launched a recreation league program for kids ages 5-10. Click here for details and online registration.
Please note that supporting Asheville Shield's mission to bring an option to the soccer playing youth in Asheville doesnt mean we are in any way against the current youth soccer club offering in Asheville. A vote for choice is a vote for community excellence. The truth is, healthy competition is always a good thing. Competition in a market leads to consumer-driven prices and carefully maintained standards. When organizations push each other forward, it is you, the consumer, who benefits.
Do you agree that Asheville/Buncombe County should have a choice of youth soccer clubs?
If you do, please sign this petition supporting our request that ASFC be granted membership into the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association in the spring of 2017, and share it with others!
