We, the Board and Members of Caribbean Women's Society (CWS) and its subsidiaries, Caribbean-Canadian Parents United (CCPU) and Caribbean-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Community (C5), need your support to urge our elected official(s) to sponsor our Private Member’s Bill to have Parliament recognize October as "Caribbean Heritage Month".
As background CWS, CCPU, and C5 are ground-breaking, grassroots, membership-based non-profit organizations headquartered in Ontario, Canada; and aimed at improving quality of life for the Caribbean-Canadian community.
Caribbean-Canadians have helped to build Canada into the multicultural success story that it is; making it the best place to live, work and raise families.
CWS has proclaimed the month of October as “Caribbean Heritage Month”; an innovative initiative to recognize and celebrate Caribbean-Canadians who made and continue to make significant contributions, across all fields and industries, to Canada, as early as the 1700’s (http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/caribbean-people/)
Similar to Caribbean American Heritage Month, (passed in the U.S. Senate in February 2006), Canada's Caribbean Heritage Month will be marked by a series of cultural events and activities throughout October.
This will be an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about Caribbean-Canadians and the important role that they have played and continue to play in communities across Ontario.
