Dear CCSD93 Community Members,

The teachers of School District 93 (also known as the Carol Stream Education Association - CSEA) are in need of your support.

At the Board of Education meeting held on June 13, 2019, District 93 teachers spoke about contractual and procedural violations made by administrators, the hurt it has caused, and how they’ve been impacted on a personal level (please refer to the Carol Stream Examiner article posted here for more information).  Their stories left many community members in tears. These issues were not isolated to one building but were concerns district-wide.

Research shows that an overwhelming majority (77 percent) of teachers would leave their job for another because of the harm caused by administrative mistreatment (Blase, 2008).  Illinois presently faces a statewide teacher shortage, and we as a community cannot afford to lose our highly qualified educators. Currently, 98% of District 93 teachers are rated as 'Proficient' or 'Excellent'.  We want these educators to stay with our kids. Our children should have an exceptional school experience where they are able to grow and develop academically, socially, and emotionally in preparation for life. Right now, our teachers have the skills and knowledge to provide this environment for our children.

By signing this petition as a community member and taxpayer in School District 93,  you are saying that you support full administrative compliance with the following district policies/procedures already in place:

1) Full compliance with the Carol Stream Education Association/Board of Education contract.

2) Teacher participation in the decision-making of the District as supported by Board Policy 500.05 and the CSEA/Board of Education contract.

3) A school environment that is productive, respectful, and free of retaliation. A teacher’s employment, compensation, or work assignment should not be adversely affected by verbalizing or filing complaints, or for providing information, as supported by Board Policy 500.20.
