We support the creation of a temporary dog run at NYC Park Dept’s Penn South Park on 25th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues. The Chelsea Waterside Dog Park is temporarily closed for renovation until the summer (of 2022) and during this time our community members with dogs have expressed the need for an alternative outdoor space where they may bring their dogs to play. This proposed dog run would be securely fenced in and available for limited hours during the day. We are in support of this proposal as it will promote positive community engagement as well as provide residents with an outdoor space where they can bring their dogs for much-needed exercise and socialization. This will improve the quality of life for our families with dogs, as well their neighbors; as it will reduce some of the behavior problems commonly associated with dogs who are regularly deprived of opportunities for much-needed play and exercise. We support a responsibly maintained and well/organized temporary dog run shared in a respectful and considerate way with our neighbors and community members.
