Sign the Petition: A Safe Haiku Pedestrian Bike Path!

The Transportation Committee of the Haiku Community Association’s is asking community leaders to evaluate options for a pathway connecting the Haiku Cannery on Haiku Road, with the Pauwela Cannery on West Kuiaha...and eventually on to Paia. This could include Haiku and Roots schools, and the Boys and Girls Club.
While paths once connected the two canneries, there is no longer a safe way for pedestrians or bikers to travel between the two commercial centers in our town. Making our community walkable is an important goal for the Haiku Community. Further, in an effort to create food security, we ultimately envision a path planted with fruit trees, in a permaculture style...perhaps even with community gardens.
At the moment, we are exploring possible routes...and encourage your ideas. The three possibilities on the table at the moment are: 1) the old train track, 2) EMI ditch, 3) widening Haiku Rd, and 4) some combination of the above.
