Support A Day Without A Woman at Rider University

We are asking Rider University to support all part-time and full-time employees who choose to participate in A Day Without a Woman demonstrations on International Women's Day, March 8, 2017 with a day of paid leave. This act of economic solidarity would reaffirm Rider University's support for the equitable treatment of women and all gender-oppressed people.
The organizers of A Day Without a Woman have issued this letter to businesses and institutions calling for them to stand with their female employees on March 8. In addition to institutional support for this movement, we call on individuals at all levels of Rider University to participate in the day in the following ways, as outlined by the organizers:
1. Women take the day off, from paid and unpaid labor;
2. Avoid shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women- and minority-owned businesses);
3. Wear RED in solidarity with A Day Without a Woman.
If Rider University is not able to fulfill this request, despite genuine effort to do so, we ask for the administration's support in future demonstrations and initiatives that bring attention to "the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system--while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity."
For more information on A Day Without a Woman, please read these FAQs. Please also visit the Women's March website for a template letter women may customize and submit to their employers, and graphics that can be used to spread awareness for the day.
