We the undersigned concerned residents of Schodack are asking the Town of Schodack government to adhere to the strategic vision articulated in the adopted Comprehensive Plan with regard to the approval of commercial development in our Town. To these ends, we ask the Town Board to establish an Implementation Committee comprised of interested citizens and Town government officials to begin a true public dialogue regarding appropriate uses and permitted sizes of facilities in each of the commercial zones, develop specific definitions for each use, and incorporate them into a new Town Zoning Law. We ask the Town Board to adopt the commercial design guidelines recently developed by a committee comprised of citizens and Town government officials, and the code recommendations also developed. Determine if other standards such as acceptable noise levels and appropriate buffer zones between non-compatible uses need to be developed, and include them as part of the Town Zoning Law.
Numerous reports, some funded by the town, including the more recent Routes 9 & 20 Corridor Study, the 2007 Study on Perspectives on Growth and Development, and the Zoning/Code Change Recommendations of the Town’s Commercial Design Standards Committee, sit on shelves in the Town Hall collecting dust. These reports along with public discussion will form a strong basis for a new Town Zoning Law – one that the strategic future vision agreed upon by many hard working, tax paying residents and business owners can finally become a reality, and allow for non-confrontational development in Schodack.
