This petition represents all people, no matter their class or economic status, their ethnicity, religion, or gender expression.  This is for the residents, commuters, tourists, children, cyclists, veterans, people with disabilities, people who don't drive cars, people who want to enjoy our beautiful waterways, people who are pressed for time and cannot sit in traffic for 2+ hours each day: you, me, and so many others who can benefit from an additional means of trans-bay transportation.

The purpose and goal of this petition is to express the want and need for this ferry to alleviate the ever-increasing traffic congesting the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, the Bay Bridge, and the Golden Gate Bridge.  There is currently no (practical) way to transit across all three landmasses (North Bay/Marin County, East Bay/Contra Costa and Alameda Counties, and San Francisco City/County) without driving a vehicle.  With rising populations, we need to come up with logical and real time solutions to reduce the number of cars on the road, keep air quality at livable, healthy levels, promote accessibility for cyclists who are otherwise unable to bike to work or for leisure, and to improve our local economies with increased incentives for residents and tourists to travel to and from Marin and East Bay cities, and for safety reasons by keeping intoxicated drivers off the roads during holidays and game days.

The infrastructure is already there, yet the connections have not been made.  The local transportation and government authorities need to hear from us; they need to feel the impact of how many people would use and support these ferry routes before they can be motivated to put action into effect. Our declining air quality suggests that we cannot afford to wait for another long-range 20-year plan to be drawn up, we need to see action now....  It is time to "Boat the Divide" that has kept Marin County physically inaccessible for East Bay residents, and vice versa, for so long.

There are ample opportunities for app-based bike and scooter rental companies, private bus agencies, BART and Golden Gate Transit connector buses, Whistlestop Wheels, taxis, Uber, Lyft, and companies willing to invest in carpool options or mass transportation vehicles for their employees to get to work via ferry.  Additionally, the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program offers incentives to employees of companies that fall within certain criteria who commute to work. To suggest that there is a lack of incentive, riders, transit options, or employment density at both Larkspur-Oakland or Larkspur-Richmond terminals is too great to put this east-west ferry route in place is an unfortunate attempt to discourage ridership among commuters.

Please sign this petition and share with your friends, families and colleagues to show your support in creating the first step towards more environmentally appropriate and forward-thinking solutions to free up our current congested roadways and bridges!!!
