Supertram: Reinstate the Purple Route
This petition made change with 42 supporters!
Supertram have announced that from Monday 7 December they will be suspending daytime service from Mondays to Fridays on the Purple Route. This leaves many people who live in Herdings stranded with no tram link, instead having to catch a slow and inconvenient bus to Gleadless Townend and then change onto a tram there.
It also cuts the south of Sheffield's direct link to Meadowhall, with passengers now having to change trams in the city centre which increases journey times and may be difficult for a passenger with reduced mobility. From Herdings the situation is even worse - a passenger for Meadowhall would have to catch a bus from Herdings Park to Gleadless Townend, a Blue Route tram to the city centre and finally a Yellow Route tram to Meadowhall, and then do the same on the return journey. Changing trams/buses four times on a formerly direct return journey is simply unacceptable.
A much better decision would be to cut the Blue and/or Yellow routes to every 15 minutes to free up capacity instead of axing a popular and vital link completely. Even one tram per hour (i.e. every 60 mins) would be better then completely cancelling the route.
24 hours after the petition was originally set up and the first day of no Purples has drawn to a close. We've had messages sent in to us telling of chaos and confusion as a result of the short-notice cancellations, with complaints on Twitter that one passenger waited for a Purple tram for an hour, not realising it wasn't running because of Supertram's woeful communication with passengers. Other people have said that the disruption has caused them to be late for work.
This is simply unacceptable. Please, think of all the people you are affecting - reverse your decision ASAP. Thankyou.
