“One Class: Together at Home”
“One Class: Together at Home”
Why this petition matters
I recently sent a letter to Superintendent Hanna proposing another possible solution for graduation for the Leon County school district: a pre-recorded televised event. The idea came to me when I was watching the “One World: Together at Home” Covid-19 relief concert and was in awe of the way these celebrities created a feeling of togetherness from all around the world. This would consist of pre-recoded videos of graduates, principals, class presidents, salutatorians, and valedictorians, which would all be sent in and compiled together. It would be broadcast on local stations and large families could all watch together, as opposed to the ceremony being limited to the people you can fit in your car. I know we all want to walk and have things be normal, but I don’t know when and if that would be possible in the unforeseen times. Even months from now, the virus could still be prevalent. Personally, I know that attending a physical graduation for me is out of the question in the coming months, because my mother has cancer and could easily fall ill to the virus. If you would like to share your support for this idea, post your feelings on social media using the hashtag #oneclasstogether AND tagging @leoncountyschools, as well as signing this petition. Also, feel free to share to get the word out to your friends and get people on board! There is no reason we shouldn’t be allowed to have a ceremony that makes us feel recognized, but is safe and comfortable!
