Introduction

I am a student attending a high school in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. The rules and regulations for students here are very well thought out and justifiable, all except the dress code policy.

The Regulation Issue

There have been many rules added in this department for seemingly no reason at all ; No logos bigger than this size, no jackets of this color, these types of khaki pants are fine but these are not, the list goes on and on. These rules are illogical and have no reason to even exist. I understand basic dress code and like many other students agree that some things should not be allowed in school, but restrictions like these are beyond my comprehension.

Effects On Others

Not only does it put a strain on students to always make sure they are following the mass ammount of regulations, but the parents are affected too. There have been many occasions where a parent has bought their child a jacket or pair of pants and then the child would be punished for being slightly out of dress code. Then the parent must go and buy yet another item of clothing, and clothing isn't cheap. Why have to go out and by uniforms when the child has other clothing readily available?

Conclusion

In conclusion, the current regulations and rules tied to dress code in Lauderdale County are restrictive, confusing, illogical, and cause a negative affect on both the children and parents of said children. I myself, like many other students and parents, would like to make these rules less restrictive, if not get rid of them completely. I hope you will sign this petition, it will help more than you think.
