Safety is the number one concern for every parent.  With an increase in traffic on certain streets, it is imperative that Superintendent, Joseph W. Pasquerilla, and the Bethel Park School Board re-evaluate the zones requiring our children to walk to school; an act that has not been done since 2011.  Specifically, the streets in question that should be re-evaluated are Clifton, Logan, Library, Brightwood, Summit, and Greenwald.

In a recent study on traffic patterns conducted by Allstate and the Bethel Park police department, four major roadways were evaluated: Clifton, Logan, Library, and Brightwood.  Speed trailers were positioned on each of these roads to monitor traffic.  An article published on TribLIVE reported that 95% of drivers passing these trailers were recorded as speeding.  “The highest speed in a 25 mph zone was 64 mph; the highest in a 35 mph zone, 77 mph.”

With these findings in mind, it is imperative that the School Board take a second look at the zones in question before it is too late and a child is struct by a distracted driver speeding on these roads.  Bus schedules should be added for these high traffic areas to protect our children. Please add your name on the list and make your voice heard that you wish to protect the children in our school district, and insure their safe passage to and from school.
