Why this petition matters

Started by Cheryl Hurd

Our children are being denied a fulfilling education. Some of our neighboring towns are moving up in their hybrid schedules and we are being left behind. . Our children are suffering. Our neighboring towns house our children’s future competition when it comes to scholarships, colleges, and jobs and we are being left behind. A standard school week consists of 30 hours of in person learning, during the current month of November, Manalapan is barely piecing together a 30 hour MONTH of in person learning.  It’s time to fight for our students in Manalapan.  While in school classes are not set up the same as we are all used to, our children are still getting social and emotional connections with their peers and teachers, safely from a distance.  Masks are required and safe to protect from spread, the plexi-glass barriers are suggested as a secondary protection and will be used to protect from the spread and the social distancing struggles our district will face in SOME classrooms.  This helps do a great job of preventing and containing the spread of not only this virus, but every other cold/virus we have encountered over the school years with our children.  In the October 6 BOE (34:16) "Corona Money" is discussed that can be used to help supply additional staffing and/or the supplies needed to make our schools safe to open for 5 half days.  This money is still there and needs to be spent within a certain time frame, it is federal money that will not affect our district budget.  In the same October 6 BOE meeting (13:01) some of the members claim Hybrid is working and there are NO issues they are aware of, it is addressed again in the same meeting 23:51 that there are many concerns and issues over the current program.  Why is the Board only catering to certain and particular concerns and needs?  How can they not be aware that there are issues?  Please SPEAK UP, advocate for your family if you have issues, make these board members AWARE of the reality of what is happening in our homes!  A survey was sent out more than half of a response in favor of a 5 half day hybrid schedule, why is the majority being ignored?  I beg of you to attend the next BOE meeting on Tuesday, November 17 at 7:30PM at MEMS - there is power in numbers and unity.  Let's fight for our children's education and all around well being.
