SPPS: Why won't you interview a qualified teacher for JJ Hill principal?

Dear Superintendent Thein and St. Paul School Board members,
As parents of JJ Hill students, we want very much to see the most qualified, best candidate selected as our school’s next principal. For that reason, we are deeply disturbed by the district’s decision not to include Robert Ruud, a distinguished JJ Hill teacher, among the candidates to be interviewed for the position. In addition to the exemplary work he has done as a JJ Hill teacher and a leader in our school community, Mr. Ruud has decades of prior school-administration experience. He was also considered a qualified candidate and interviewed by the district just last year. His exclusion from the group of candidates interviewed earlier this week has not been explained to us and is unacceptable to us, as parents concerned about the future of the school we love, just one year after the district assigned us a new principal and less than one year after our school suffered a horrific tragedy. We demand that the district give Mr. Ruud the opportunity to interview for the principal position at JJ Hill, and that he receive the same fair consideration as a qualified applicant that we hope all the other candidates will receive.
