Due to the recent coronavirus outbreaks, many schools nationwide have temporarily closed in order to keep the virus from spreading. In Monroe County, there are now at least two reported cases. A child who lives in our own community has possibly come in contact with somebody infected in Irondequoit. Many students live with relatives who are at risk of either being hospitalized or dying: the old, the sick, the immunocompromised, the list goes on. Even still, many student themselves have conditions that put them at risk. I alone know many lovely folks who have diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and generally poor immune systems that go to Fairport schools. To still have schools open is quite irresponsible, considering these things. Many students have already spoken out about this, but to no avail. 

Please, we can always reopen schools, but we can’t reopen the eyes that will permanently close due to the coronavirus.
