On June 17, 2021, our school board voted for a reopening plan for the 21/22 school ear BEFORE the mask mandate was lifted and BEFORE the deadline of July 1st. While this mandatory mask use may go away in August (which is the next school board meeting), we need to get out voices heard! 
As a parent of two lung compromised children and a whole year of forced homeschooling under my belt, I feel like it is my duty to spread awareness and at the very least give Crestwood parents a day in what is happening in our district. 
I am by no means an expert on anything other than raising children and catering to my children’s breathing issues. My Kindergarten son wore a face shield and was treated like he had a highly contagious disease with plexiglas dividers around his desk and forced to wear a mask outside without my knowledge. 
As parents, we have a right to have a day in what happens in our school district. Apparently, we have a pandemic team that not many people know about or know who’s on it. When I spoke with the principle of Fairview Elementary School, I was told that I view my opinions over the safety of other children. This is not true. I believe that after this pat years our children have been through enough, have almost flunked, have cried, have called themselves stupid, wanted to quit and also pretending like they didn’t learn anything, which I do not blame them for. WE DESERVE TO TREAT OUR CHILDREN BETTER AND SERVE THEM BETTER.

While teachers and staff have worked tirelessly to keep our children on track and to get assignments done on time, homeschooling and cyber school is not an option for most parents. Daycares are unmasked, casinos are unmasked, and most businesses are unmasked. 
It is time to make some noise and let our voices be heard and inquire who the hell are the specialists on the pandemic team and what they stand for. Crestwood does a terrible job at informing parents and keeping them in the loop. I ask that you sign this petition to unmask/unvisor our children and let them have a normal school year. They are the lowest transmission rate for covid. They deserve a normal school year.  Which some of you might say, “it’s mostly the parents causing the fuss”. Have you asked your children how many mask breaks they get throughout the day during school? Have you asked them how they truly feel about wearing a mask? Please have this conversation. 
 Children belong in school in a structured environment to thrive. Let’s make this happen!
