Why this petition matters

Started by Natalie Beilein

Please consider signing the petition as a sign of support for our athletes to commence their 2020-2021 sports season at Lewiston Porter.

Sports are a conduit for development of youth’s sense of self and belonging; a place where differences are embraced and togetherness is achieved. The competitiveness that sports offers is an intrinsic motivator for all the athletes that participate. Many times, it’s the sport that keeps athletes engaged in the pursuit of education.

Sports develop the following employability skills: leadership, teamwork, communication, time management, prioritization, emotional intelligence, and planning, to name a few. These are skills put into action on the court, field, track, course, and pool. Sports offer continued education through collegiate scholarship opportunities and for many, is the difference between where they are and where they want to be in life.

The data for COVID 19 reports well for youth. As adults, we need to believe we can exercise some common sense therefore, offer safety measures for those who are more susceptible while also advocating for our youth and their high school experience.

Today and everyday life is meant to be lived, and that should be a choice for people too.
