SUNY Buffalo State College is kicking students out during a pandemic based off of only three months worth of work. These are students who don't have jobs and have complained time and time again about their struggle during COVID-19. Students are losing their financial aid and most SUNY students cannot afford to pay out-of-pocket. It's making it hard for students to go back or even want to go back to college. SUNY Buffalo State lacks communication with its students and professors also lack communication with students. We're supposed to work together.

The timing of it is extremely horrible. Buffalo State sent the emails saying students got kicked out, during the holiday week; a time when most people will not be available. Then gave less than two weeks to email a counselor or advisor to discuss next steps when those people often don’t respond and have over 150 or so students to respond to, most with the same questions. In order to file an appeal, students must have "physical and sustainable evidence," and that isn’t something you can pull out of thin air. Students won't get notified until mid January, if successful. If students fail in their appeal, this leaves them less than a week or so to try and stop financial aid, whatever of it they still have from counting towards a semester you aren’t attending. Students also have to get their belongings from campus, which for most people is 8 hours away and requires at least a day or two to travel back and fourth. 90% of people will not be able to make such drastic accommodations so quickly and their stuff gets thrown out because of it. There is something genuinely gross about an institution "for the people" being almost so outspokenly against them. Please help these SUNY students. During a time of confusion, chaos, and personal struggles, they shouldn't be forced out after just one semester.
