SUNY Cortland: Give us fruit!
Why this petition matters
SUNY Cortland makes its on-campus residents buy a meal plan. Understandably, while enforcing social distancing it has become difficult to provide a wide variety of food options that have been available in previous years, there has been a surprising lack of fruit. The USDA recommends having five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables everyday, but at dining halls where students can use their unlimited dining swipes, the sole fruits offered during most meals are apples and bananas.
This is a downgrade from last year, where students could get grapes, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, and mandarin oranges that were offered during all three meal times at Bistro and Neubig.
While we understand that times are hard, when students are made to buy a meal plan, the least we ask for is to be given healthier food groups without having to buy a $4 fruit cup from a retail unit on campus or going to Walmart.
