Will Noosa and Sunshine Coast Reginal Councils consider a Reusable Cloth Nappy Rebate?

Reusable Cloth Nappy rebates are being successfully trialled and rolled out by many local Councils across Australia. These rebates recognise the benefits of Cloth Nappies on the enviroment and make using them accessible for all members of the community.

It is estimated that a baby will use 6000-7000 nappies before they are toilet trained. ( https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-02-25/cloth-nappies-vs-disposables-crunching-the-numbers/11994864 This number is quite a surprising shock to most.

In 2020 there were 3117 Babies Born at Sunshine Coast University Hospital and 630 at Buderim Private Hospital. (https://www.data.qld.gov.au/dataset/births-by-hospital/resource/d3d0feaa-8929-4cb6-9fd7-eb9f40f21bcb?truncate=30&inner_span=True ) This means that over 350,000 disposable nappies are going into landfill on the Sunshine Coast EVERY WEEK.

The initial outlay of reusable products can often be a barrier for families so we are petitioning Sunshine Coast Regional and Noosa Regional Councils to offer a 50% rebate of up to $150 for families who choose to use reusable nappy options.

We would like to see waste significantly on the Sunshine Coast and make it more accessible for those who would like to us or make the switch to reusable nappies.

If you are a resident of either Sunshine Coast or Noosa Reginal Councils we invite you to sign this petition and help make cloth mainstream.
