I would like to get better signage on the Fremont and Bernardo intersection in Sunnyvale, California . This intersection can cause accidents, honking wars and sometimes blocks the intersection creating traffic no one wants. The reason is due to the poor placement of signs enforcing the policy, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction” (Section 21801(a) of the vehicle code).

Most of the signs in the street, indicating this policy, are facing drivers coming from Bernardo Avenue North of Fremont, while people coming from Bernardo Avenue south of Fremont have only one sign on the opposite side of the street. Some people forget that the policy stands, especially people not familiar with intersections like these, so better placement or another sign can be very helpful.

I propose to enforce the policy, another sign should be added and put closer to drivers coming from Bernardo Avenue south of Fremont to create less confusion and prevent possible accidents and traffic jams. This will help not only Sunnyvale residents but also the drivers, creating a safer atmosphere at all hours of the day.
