Cynthia Hayes-Rupp started this petition to Sunnyvale City Council

As residents of Sunnyvale who are dog owners, we would like to propose that the town council consider designating areas and times for dogs to be off leash at our local parks.

Sunnyvale has twenty parks and no off-leash areas, other than fenced dog-runs.

Not only do owners have the need to drive to these dog-runs, since they aren’t necessarily within the neighborhood (adding to our carbon footprint) but many find that the interactions of unfamiliar dogs with their own can be unpredictable and unsafe.

Mountain View has twenty parks and, after the city ran a pilot study, eight of these parks have been designated with off-leash hours and areas. This study was launched in 2014 and is still going strong with few complaints.

We would like to have the same consideration from the City of Sunnyvale.

We would like the freedom to walk our dogs within our own neighborhoods, to our local parks, and allow our dogs to run off leash for exercise and socialization at certain times of the day.

Please run a pilot study to determine which parks would be most accommodating with off-leash areas and time.

Thank you for addressing this issue promptly!
