Why this petition matters

Started by Sheneen Naicker

The transit camp in the Isipingo area has been problematic since day one. The community is tired of constantly having to be put in uncomfortable situations due to the ongoing protests by the individuals who reside in this informal settlement. The burning of tyres and electricity cables has become a norm over the years, and this is simple because of the lack of interest from our councilor Mr Sunil Brijmohan, who tries to fix the problem but unfortunately fails to find permanent solutions.

Having a councilor for our areas means that we should not take matters into our own hands, but it is reaching a point to where the community is considering such drastic measures because they are tired of dealing with such problems. Mr Brijmohan had been elected by the community and it is high time he starts looking at what will benefit the community so that we do not have these ridiculous problems on such a regular basis. It is his job to represent the community and take these matters to higher authorities, a small fix is just not enough anymore.

Within the passed 3 weeks there has been an interruption with electricity 3 time and they were not Eskom related, but in fact directly related to the people from the Transit camp as it is clear that the cables had been tampered with. The most recent issue being the burning of tyres across the entire main road leading to the closure of the road during peak hour traffic.

We urgently require a better solution!
