Kerry Bagley started this petition to Sunderland city council and

My husband volunteers as a coach for Hylton Castle Boys Club. He’s gave up his time for not only the kids but for women on a journey to get fitter and healthier. He has also gave up another night helping a football team stay fit every week for 6 months. 5 nights a week for half of the last 12 months.

He hasn’t done this alone, there are countless volunteers and other committee members that give up their free time to make sure this gym is a success. Without them it would not run. It has been the hub of Hylton Castle and Gordon and Lesley changes many lives over the years. One of them my husband. Without the gym support as a young adult he certainly would not be doing a PhD in Hydrodynamics. Would hate to think where he would be without it.

Sadly a couple of committee members left a few weeks ago and Lesley Ibinson came back to the gym as she has always been on the committee once Gordon her husband retired from the boxing. There are 4 of their family on the committee. Sadly Lesley changed the locks on the gym today and closed up. Even though all the volunteers and committee are still in place bar 2 as she has refused others to join. She refused Frankie a place on the committee as she claims he is volatile yet he’s been in charge of vulnerable children for over 12 months. She claims she told frankie to stop the boxing over August which she didn’t, she suggested he close and Frankie hasn’t as a young boy said at the beginning of the holidays that he hoped it would be on as he’s not going anywhere over the holidays. The children need the gym more over the holidays than when they are at school, it takes them off the streets. Some of these children the gym is all they have. Now there are around 40 children who look forward to their sessions with Frankie left without a gym. We won’t be beaten and Frankie has decided to still run the boxing sessions outside on the grass so not to let these children down. Parents will tell you how these sessions give their children confidence and friendships they wouldn’t have without the gym. The children are of all abilities, some with complex needs and disabilities and they are all included equally. Anyone that knows Frankie knows he is amazing with the children. They all love him. We need the gym reopened for these kids and adults who rely on it. Please sign and support this local community we and the people making it better. This is a community building used by 100s of families weekly and it should not be down to 1 woman whether it stays open. Especially when the none family committee members and the volunteers are all willing to continue to work. Please share and support this ❤️
