Petition to Sunderland City Council in respect of their current intention, via Sunderland Homes Ltd (the Council’s new development trading company), to build 6No detached homes on the land adjacent to Fulwell Methodist Church (Planning application ref: 17/00863/LP3)
We, the undersigned, request that Sunderland City Council withdraw their planning application ref 17/00863/LP3 for the construction of the 6No houses referred to above as the loss of what has been an open public space play / recreational area for well in excess of 50 years is not in the general interest of the residents of Fulwell and the surrounding areas. The area has and continues to be used and enjoyed by many individual local residents, their families, visitors and social groups and will be a significant loss to the community for what appears to be very little benefit to the same people / community that will suffer such a loss. Other issues including significant concerns regarding the additional congestion that the planned new adoptable road junction will create near to the roundabout at the top of Dykelands Road should also be further considered by the Council as the presence of such additional congestion will be detrimental to the safety of both road users and pedestrians the latter of which at peak times will predominantly be schoolchildren of varying ages.
This petition is on the same terms as an existing paper-based petition led by Mrs M Drummond. It is intended to be read in conjunction with the existing petition.
