Gale Wright started this petition to Department of Justice

On 14 August 2017 at 12:10 p.m., After retrieving mail,  my mother, Ada Wright, was standing at her mailbox when a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck intentionally ran off the roadway attempting to hit her. The driver came so close to hitting her that she had to jump into a ditch to avoid getting hit.  As a result, my mother was lying in the ditch with ants crawling on her for approximately 15 minutes with a severely broken and fractured ankle.  She had emergency surgery on the same day.

The video of the pickup shows that the drivers was still off the roadway after he attempted to hit my mother as he was passing a business approximately 150 yards away from the incident.

Major Terrance Colclough, Commander of Operations at Sumter Police Department, met with my family and stated that Solicitor Ernest 'Chip' Finney, III., had enough evidence and would be filing charges against the drivers.  As of February 3, 2019, Solicitor Finney has not filed criminal charges.

My mother has metal plates in screws in her ankle.  She is suffering in pain every day and night. She has to walk with a cane.  As the result of her injury, she's fallen several times and broke her finger, due to inability to put pressure on her ankle.   Before the incident, she didn't have any health issues.  Now, her entire life has been altered and relegated to physical disability.

She has accumulated over $50,000 plus in medical bills and ongoing medical bills that she has to pay.  My mother shouldn't be paying medical bills for her ankle nor her back and shoulder injuries. The driver of the white pickup truck needs to be held responsible both criminal and financially.

We live in fear not knowing the reason that this driver wanted to harm her, or whether the driver will attempt attack her again, or some other elderly person standing at a mailbox.  My theory is this incident occurred on the same day and hour that President Donald Trump denounced racism was wrong and the KKK were responsible for the murder of Heather D. Heyer and attacks on others protesters, who were protesting against racism in Charlottesville, W.VA.

I strongly believe that the attack on my mother was racially motivated in terms of a hate crime.  The Driver made eye contact with my mother as he was trying to hit her.
