Tenisha Tookes started this petition to Sumter county school board and

The Sumter County School Board has voted to change the name of the new High School to Sumter County School High. Many of the students reside in Americus, Georgia, which is the county seat for Sumter County.  We as a community believe that the name should remain as it and has been since the merger of the Americus High School and Sumter County High School. This merger has brought together the many  talents that is often displayed in many academic and sporting events. The Americus- Sumter name has POWER, HISTORY and TRADITION. The name Americus- Sumter has been heard all around the STATE in basketball and football and other sporting and academic events. Recently the Girls Basketball team won a State victory and last year the Boys Basketball Team came in Second Place, that itself shows the name speaks volumes. When asked by others what school did you attend, those that attended school here proudly say, Americus- Sumter High School.  I am asking everyone, if you want your voice to be heard and you BELIEVE the High School should KEEP the name, many of us PROUDLY call Americus- Sumter High School.  PLEASE sign this petition and SHARE!!! The Sumter County School Board and School Superintendent needs to HEAR us!! No issue is DEAD, as we all know, it's almost Election time!! They need to know we are PROUD of our name and we don't want to give it up!! Our name has a LEGACY that has been passed down. Americus- Sumter  has been in numerous playoffs and championships games, as well as the numerous students that have graduated with honors and went on to great things. We are those on the School Board to please allow the High School to keep it's name- Americus- Sumter High School!! Sign and Share!!!
